Eindecker
WW1 Sport/Stunt Plane
|
The Fokker Eindecker (which means "one wing" in German) was designed by Anthony Fokker in 1915 to counter the French Morane-Saulnier type N (Bullet). The Bullet used deflector plates to protect the propeller from machine gun bullets that were fired through the propeller arc. The Eindecker used an interrupter gear that stopped the gun from firing whenever the propeller was in the way. This invention made the Eindecker the most deadly weapon of 1915. The period from April to September 1915 was known the "Fokker Scourge".
