F4U Corsair

The Corsair was an advanced design that had some initial teething problems.   The poor forward visibility due to the long nose and the touchy landing characteristics caused by a powerful engine swinging a 13 foot prop caused several accidents when attempting carrier landings and gave the plane the nickname of "Ensign Eliminator."   Doing what the Navy does with aircraft it finds unsuitable, the Corsair was given to the Marines who racked up an impressive score at the hands of such aviators as Greg "Pappy" Boyington.   Eventually both the Marines and the Navy used this bird with great effectiveness.

This Dick Sarpolus design captures the lines of this great warbird in a hot .049 powered scale version.   Fly this beauty in combat against Dick's Japanese Zero for some real excitement at your local flying circle!
